Here come the Label rouge Strawberries
Two categories of French strawberries, the gariguette and the ciflorette just obtained the coveted title Label Rouge, guaranteeing a superior quality product. “For the consumers, Label Rouge is their assurance for eating strawberries picked at optimal ripeness and in which the sugar level is guaranteed”, says the Lot-et-Garonne Strawberry Interprofessional Association (AIFLG). The producers of this sector have been working very hard for the last 5 years, to acquire this label. “Only five high-quality strawberry varieties, have been selected and the producers have to follow very high specifications”, explain Philippe Blouin, vice-president of the AIFLG. With an annual production of 12 000 tons, the Lot-et-Garonne represents 28% of the French strawberry production.
